PIPELINING

Repair. Don't replace.

As buildings age, pipe deterioration becomes more likely. Corrosion, repeat sewer backups, roots, and cracks are all common pipe problems.

What is Pipe Lining?

Pipe lining restores and renews old, broken or corroded pipes to a “like new” condition without the need to remove or replace them.

We are proud to offer NuFlow’s patented cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) restoration process to repair pipe from the inside. A thin resin liner is installed to the pipes interior to seal and protect the system from further deterioration, dramatically extending the life of piping system.

How Does Pipe Lining Work?

Step 1: Inspection and Diagnosis

As a NuFlow Certified Contractor, we will inspect the existing pipes for any corrosion, roots, or cracks using a drain camera. Based on these results, we will recommend a plan for cleaning and lining if necessary.

Step 2: Cleaning

Debris, roots and corrosion are removed from the pipes using specialized tools, restoring the pipe back to its original diameter.

Step 3: Pipe Lining

A resin-saturated liner with an internal bladder is inserted through the pipe using existing access points in your plumbing system. Once in place, the bladder is inflated, pressing the resin against the pipe wall.

Step 4: Curing and Evaluation

The resin is left to cure, and the bladder is removed, leaving behind a clean, strong and seamless “pipe within a pipe.” A final inspection is performed for quality assurance.

Pipe Lining vs. Pipe Replacement

Traditional pipe replacement has many disadvantages to pipe lining. A messy construction site, long production times and major disruption to residents or tenants.

Conventional Pipe Replacement

Involves demolition to enable access to pipes

Highly disruptive to tenants/owners

Requires repair/reconstruction to return property to original condition

Highly disruptive to tenants/owners

Pipe Rehabilitation

Uses existing access points, trenchless, no-dig solution

Less disruptive and faster than traditional pipe replacement

Avoids structural destruction of buildings, hardscapes, landscapes and associated reconstruction costs

Suited to the most challenging pipe situations

How does pipe lining solve problems of root intrusion?

Pipe lining, also known as cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining, is a trenchless sewer repair method used to rehabilitate damaged or deteriorating pipes without the need for extensive excavation. While it may not directly prevent root intrusion, pipe lining can effectively address the problems caused by root intrusion in sewer and drainage pipes. Here's how pipe lining helps solve root intrusion issues:

1. Sealing Cracks and Leaks:

Root intrusion typically occurs through cracks, gaps, or joints in the sewer pipes. When tree roots sense water and nutrients inside the pipe, they can grow through these openings, causing blockages and further damaging the pipe. Pipe lining involves inserting a flexible resin-coated liner into the existing pipe. The liner adheres to the inner surface of the pipe, sealing any cracks, holes, or joints. This prevents tree roots from finding entry points and inhibits their ability to penetrate the pipe.

2. Reinforcing the Pipe:

Root intrusion can weaken the structural integrity of the pipe, leading to collapses or complete failures. Pipe lining not only seals the existing damage but also reinforces the host pipe. The cured-in-place liner becomes a new, durable inner layer within the pipe, adding strength to the original structure. This reinforcement reduces the likelihood of future root intrusion and other types of damage.

3. Creating a Smooth Interior Surface:

Tree roots can easily grow and cling to rough, irregular surfaces inside pipes. By lining the pipe with a smooth and continuous resin-coated liner, pipe lining eliminates potential areas for roots to anchor and grow.

4. Reducing Maintenance Needs:

When tree roots infiltrate sewer pipes, they often cause blockages that require frequent and costly maintenance, such as hydro jetting or mechanical root removal. Pipe lining minimizes the risk of future root intrusion, reducing the need for ongoing maintenance and associated expenses.

5. Minimizing Environmental Impact:

Traditional pipe repair methods, such as excavation and pipe replacement, can be disruptive and have a significant environmental impact. Pipe lining is a trenchless method, meaning it requires minimal excavation, if any, compared to conventional repairs. This reduces the disturbance to the surrounding area, preserves landscaping, and minimizes the risk of damage to nearby tree roots, making it a more environmentally friendly solution.

While pipe lining is effective at addressing root intrusion issues, it is essential to identify and remove any existing root masses before the lining process begins. Removing the roots ensures that the liner adheres properly to the pipe's interior surface, providing a long-lasting solution to the root intrusion problem. Regular maintenance and root monitoring are also recommended to prevent new root growth and ensure the continued effectiveness of the pipe lining solution.
